|About Cedar Grove Plantation
Cedar Grove Plantation is located in New Kent County, Virginia between Richmond and historic Williamsburg. It is the home place of Letitia Christian Tyler, wife of 10th President John Tyler. The couple was married in the small circa 1700 Georgian house and lived there after inheriting the 4000 acre property from Letitia's parents and continued to call it home during John Tyler's climb to power.
In the late 1800's the estate was subdivided and fell into disrepair until the late 1990's when the current 200 acre farm was purchased by Edmund Ruffin, a Virginia Beach developer. Mr. Ruffin (direct descendent of agriculturalist and Civil War political activist Edmund Ruffin) undertook the task to rehabilitate the historic landmark including a complete renovation of the home in the true style of the period as well as extensive reconstruction of farm roads, fencing, and stables. The estate's ponds have been cleaned and stocked with game fish and farmlands restored to crops of wheat, soybeans, and corn.
The property is now the home of Cedar Grove Stables which provides equestrian boarding, trail rides, riding lessons, and a summer day camp for young riders.
However the historic and romantic allure of the estate has made it a destination venue for weddings, family reunions, corporate functions, and office parties.
